Nurturing, addressing, creating and sustaining your client’s demands
So what’s is life really like as an internet marketer trying to win and do business helping financial services firms with their marketing in social media and other new media channels?
Bloody tough is the honest answer – and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying through their teeth! I read the other day, in fact that internet marketers are now working longer hours than City bankers! And I can well believe that. In fact if we didn’t have to sleep it would be round the clock.
Nobody ever said online marketing was easy!
I have actually started writing this at precisely 12:36 am, madness but that’s the way it is. To do this job properly and effectively you have to live and breathe online marketing and have it under your skin! You have to be a technician, a strategist, an analyst and, above all, a psychologist. If you don’t understand people and how we connect then it is very difficult to truly get to grips with this new socially connected world.
And when I say ‘socially connected’ I do mean in the broadest sense. I don’t just mean whittling away the hours chatting! I mean truly understanding the passions of people, what drives them to do things and what you can do, as a marketer to truly engage your target audience and get them to talk to you via the various, relevant social channels.
Content is king in social media
To ‘do’ social media for effective business takes time, patience, understanding, strategy and, above all really, really good content!!!
There are many elements to creating a robust social media and internet marketing strategy. It is the sum of the parts which create a successful whole but all these parts need nurturing, addressing, creating and sustaining and be absolutely relevant to the client’s business and their objectives.
Sounds simple yeah? Well it’s not! It’s bloody hard to do and one of the hardest things to do is to make business people out there understand what its all about and just how involved it is to do internet marketing, namely social media marketing successfully! I cannot think of any one of my social media professional friends who would not agree with this.
Working tirelessly to help your company “get” digital
So, I urge you, Mr financial adviser, next time you talk to a digital marketer about possibly helping you with your social media and internet marketing strategy and implementation or helping you with your content etc. spare a thought. Spare a thought for the fact that they will work tirelessly on your behalf. That they, if they know what they are doing, should be able to represent your company effectively online and engage with the right people on your behalf to increase the influencers and advocators of your business as well as your client base directly. They will be worth their weight in gold and truly make a massive difference to your business.
The brave new world of digital business
Doing business has changed dramatically. Businesses have to change too. You need someone who can really help you do this. Who are the right people? Who can you trust to do a job you actually don’t fully understand yourself and is so new you wonder who, if anyone, is an expert?!
We will answer this in another blog. There aren’t many of us, but when you find a good one – hang onto them for dear life!
